Helping our clients/students

So how do we help our clients and students maintain their momentum and be resilient in their careers? Check off each of the strategies to learn more.

Sleep, exercise and stress management

Our clients and students taking care of themselves? Do they meditate? Do they have ways to manage stress? Are they getting enough rest? Do they try to get some exercise every day? Research shows the connection between Mind Body health and our capacity to maintain our motivation come up and engagement and resilience towards meeting our life goals.

Thought awareness

Do our clients and students think they can or can’t? Do they have a positive outlook? Are they realistic about what they believe? Do they have strategies to help them be more positive?

Smart goal development

Do you clients and students have goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-based? The more smartly describe their goals are the higher chance they have for achieving them.

Build strong relationships

As demonstrated in the resiliency research, the more we can build strong, empathic, supportive relationships, the more resilient we will be, the more people we will have to cheers us on and the more confident we will be in pursuing our life and career goals.

Be flexible

Our careers in an uncertain labor market, we will need to be able to move with the flow come up change direction embrace change. This can be difficult for some clients and students. Doing the strategies listed above and having back-up plans will help them ride the waves of change.

Maintaining career growth momentum

As mentioned at the beginning of this course topic, there are five keys to maintaining momentum in your career. They are : getting into motion, staying motivated, accessing supports/allies, making a commitment and always having a plan B. What follows is a series of questions that will help you maintain your own personal career goal momentum. It requires you to do carry a life project from the meaning course topic. If you haven’t done this for your self yet, we’ve included the endowed in this course topics resources section. Take the time to do it first and then come back to answer the following questions.

Activity: maintaining momentum

  1. With your career life statement in hand, ask yourselves: is there anything I want to do in the next few years based on my statement?
  2. What are a few initial steps you could undertake to get started?
  3. How will you benefit from achieving this goal?
  4. What are the obstacles that you can foresee getting in the way of your goal(s)? What has got in your way in the past?
  5. How have you faced challenges in the past? What skills, strength, attitude and motivators do you typically use?
  6. What/who will you need to help you move forward on this? How will you access these resources6
  7. Who will you tell about your plan, and when will you tell them?
  8. What might be your plan B?

Reflection

  1. How hard or easy do you think it will be to pursue your goal? Was reflecting on the questions helpful?
  2. When you fill out the questions, was anything surprising? Or any of these questions more difficult than others to answer? If yes, which ones and why do you think that was?
  3. In what ways might asking the questions help a student or client to solidify and stay on track with their goals for learning and/or work?
