Course Description
This course equips Career Development Professionals (CDPs) to support clients through the complex realities of modern work search. Learners develop practical strategies for guiding clients across the work search journey, including readiness, job search tools, labour market navigation, and the ethical use of technology.
Grounded in the Career Development Process, trauma-informed practice, cultural humility, and strengths-based support, the course builds confidence and practical skills to help clients move from uncertainty to informed action.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:
- Analyze the emotional, structural, and technological realities of modern work search and apply ethical, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches to support client engagement
- Assess client readiness and guide clients in building self-awareness, focus, S.M.A.R.T goals, and a Personal Profile that anchors their work search direction
- Support clients in preparing effective work search tools — including resumes, cover letters, applications, references, interviews, personal branding, and social media presence — integrating digital and AI tools ethically and responsibly
- Coach clients in identifying and acting on work opportunities using job postings, networking, informational interviews, online platforms, hidden job markets, and safe, strategic follow-through, including recognizing scams and navigating negotiations
- Guide clients in thriving at work and walking their career path by navigating workplace culture, feedback, performance expectations, skill development, internal networking, career laddering, and long-term career growth — including support for those in survival jobs
